Change the Dock Position

Typically the Dock is center-aligned in the middle of the axis that it's aligned to (bottom, top, left, right). This tweak allows you to move the Dock to the start or end of the axis.

To implement this tweak:

  1. Start a new Terminal session (in Finder click Applications > Utilities > Terminal).

  2. To set this to Start, type (or copy and paste) the following command:

defaults write com.apple.dock pinning -string "start"

To set this to Middle, type (or copy and paste) the following command:

defaults write com.apple.dock pinning -string "middle"

To set this to End, type (or copy and paste) the following command:

defaults write com.apple.dock pinning -string "end"
  3. To reset this setting to the default value, type (or copy and paste) the following command:

    defaults delete com.apple.dock pinning
  4. To activate this tweak immediately, type the following command, or wait until the next reboot:

    killall Dock
  5. Close the Terminal session by typing exit at the prompt.

Note: When the Dock is in the default position at the bottom of the screen this would move it to the left or right.
